Overview

Studien is a London-based EdTech start-up that focuses on online tutoring. The website serves as a platform where students and tutors find their best matches, and as a tool kit to help keep track of the learning process. With data analytics, Studien personalizes each tutor and student's experience.

MY ROLE
I was approached by Studien to help them develop the product's visual style and composition. Since the product was in its formation stage, I worked with the CEO to determine what types of data are relevant, and what functionalities should be included for alpha testing.

Being the only desiger on the team, I brought in the iterative design process, and proposed various visual elements to make the website more engaging.

CHALLENGES
The challenge of the project was that without actual user data, neither the CEO nor I knew what the product should look like. With the goal of improving online tutoring experience in mind, we conducted competitor analysis, and developed a minimalistic style that allows students and tutors to focus on learning itself.

During the design process, we also stayed realistic and only included the most essential functionalities, in order to develop a version for testing as early as possible.

Product Design

The design focused on finding a modern style that clearly says "we are a young company who knows how to use technology to improve education".

My goal was to create a sense of sincerity and connection. This means information clarity and maximum transparency.

After students get paired up with their personal tutor, they will have access to tools that track their progress of learning. Tutors can also check their students' individual profiles to see their areas of weakness.
